It´s been the long-held dream of Red Cinder´s founder, Helen Chellin, to create a place where artists like herself could be granted the space, time, and encouragement to pursue their work free of outside distractions. That´s the basic principle of all artists´ colonies; however, most require a residency of at least 4 weeks. This excludes many serious artists who, for whatever reason, also have to earn a living doing other work. So the length of artist residency is two weeks - enough time to complete a short-term project or get a longer one well started. Artists are selected by a panel of peers designated by Red Cinder´s director.
Work Space and Lodging
Each visiting artist has a private workspace or live-work space. Baths are shared. Bed and bath linens are provided; laundry service is available. (Red Cinder is not a hotel, and guests are asked to cooperate in keeping it attractive and running smoothly.) Red Cinder Creativity Center is not suitable for families with young children or for those who have difficulty with steps, due to safety considerations that are inherent in its design.

Meals
Meal services are provided by a local independant contractor. Three meals a day are provided. Dinner is served family-style; breakfast and lunch are self-service buffet using ingredients provided. No alcoholic beverages are included, but guests are welcome to bring their own.

Please let us know if you have any food allergies or special diet needs. Red Cinder will try to accommodate them. Our food service is family style in format.
