South Point and Green Sand Beach Ka Lae (South Point) is the southernmost point in the U.S.A. a wide-open, windswept expanse of grassland, cliffs, and lava. At the end of the point are a restored heiau (temple) and small museum; depart from here on the 4-mile roundtrip hike to Green Sand Beach, a dramatic cove with beach sand formed of eroded greenish olivine rock.
Punalu´u Black Sand Beach On the eastern Ka´u coast, about 10 miles past Na´alehu, this beautiful and popular park is known for its black sand, composed of lava pulverized when it fell to the ocean, and as a nesting ground for the protected green sea turtle.
Kula Kai Caverns A little-known but marvelous resource in nearby Ocean View, the 1,000-year-old caverns consist of several miles of braided lava tube systems. Guided tours of varying degrees of challenge are offered. Please visit there site at: www.kulakaicaverns.com
