Our location, just off the island´s main loop road and about 1.5 hours from the airports in Hilo and Kailua, strikes a balance between remoteness and convenience. The Center accommodates up to 8 participants plus one group leader and one assistant. Lodgings accommodate up to 8 participants in 4 bedrooms, or up to 10 if the group leader (or leader and assistant) wish to sleep in the Conference Room/Dance Studio (two twin beds). There is a spacious conference room (480 sq. ft.) in the main house, and studio barn (1,250 sq. ft.) suitable for art- or craft-oriented workshops or meetings. (See Facility for details)

Red Cinder´s cultural programs, available to all groups, will enhance your appreciation of the local landscape and inhabitants (wild and human), and the history, traditions and arts of the Big Island. Programs may be keyed to your group´s learning goals; for example, a photography workshop on Big Island archaeological sites.

And there´s a wealth of things to do in leisure time, especially if you can extend your Hawai´i stay at either end. Go swimming with the sea turtles at Pu´unalu Beach, a half-hour east on the Puna coast. Take the invigorating hike from Ka Lae (South Point) to the dramatic green sand beach. Make a visit or two to Volcanoes National Park ­ it´s less than an hour away. Our Big Island Attractions page offers suggestions and links.

Lodging and Rates

Cost for Learning Center groups is $60.00 per person, per day (double occupancy and shared baths). A $75.00 cleaning fee covers cleaning after your group checks out. Lodging and cleaning costs are payable to Red Cinder, LLC. Red Cinder Creativity Center is not suitable for families with young children or for those who have difficulty with steps, due to safety considerations inherent in its design.

Bed and bath linens are provided; laundry service is available in Ocean View or Na´alehu, the nearest towns.

Meal Service Food is prepared by a local chef who emphasizes fresh ingredients and regional cooking. There are three meals daily: breakfast, a box lunch, and family-style dinner. No alcoholic beverages are included, but guests are welcome to bring their own. The cost for meal service is $30.00 per day, per person. This fee is to be paid directly to the meal service contractor.
